  7. Serve and enjoy!

Pop popcorn in a pot with butter or oil

To get really crispy popcorn when popping in a pot, it is common to use butter, oil, or some other cooking fat. Both butter and oil work well, but what is the actual difference between them?

Oil has a higher smoke point than butter. This means that oils such as rapeseed or olive oil can withstand higher temperatures and are therefore less likely to burn easily. Butter, on the other hand, gives the popcorn a good flavor, but since butter contains water, the steam can make the popcorn less crispy compared to using oil.

For best results, we recommend popping popcorn in oil and then adding butter afterwards for flavor. To achieve both flavor and crispiness at the same time, you can also combine butter and oil in the pot before popping.

5 Tips! How to make perfect popcorn in a pot

Tips 1. Use both butter and oil when popping popcorn for an extra crispy result.

Tips 2. Shake the pot occasionally while the popcorn is popping to prevent any popcorn or kernels from burning.

Tips 3. Let the lid be slightly ajar or remove it completely when about half of the popcorn has popped. This releases steam and prevents the popcorn from becoming soggy from condensation.

Tips 4. Test with about three popcorn kernels before pouring in the rest to ensure that the cooking fat and pot have reached the right temperature.

Tips 5. Wait to salt the popcorn until they are done. If you salt directly in the pot before the kernels have popped, it can affect the result and give a poorer texture.

1 dl popcorn kernels
2 tbsp water

Gör såhär:

  1. Heat a pot with a lid over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of water.
  2. Add the popcorn kernels when the water has started to boil and put on the lid.
