Sustainability work at Dorre
At Dorre, we believe in making a difference by offering kitchen products that not only help you prepare delicious meals, but also take our planet and future generations into account. Every decision we make considers sustainability, both for the company and for the products, so that both Dorre and the planet can live on. We still have a lot left to do in our sustainability commitment, but we have a strong drive to improve, and the work has only just begun.
Environmentally conscious design:
We constantly work on developing products and examine how we can best use materials that minimize our impact on the environment. We always strive for our products to be designed to last and withstand wear and tear, which reduces the need for frequent replacement. A clear example is that we always strive for cardboard & wood materials to be FSC®-certified.
We offer both FSC®-certified and non-certified products. FSC®-certified products are clearly marked on each product page under properties > Material.
Recyclability:
We strive to use recyclable materials in our packaging and products. By making it easier for our customers to recycle and reduce waste, we help reduce our collective impact on waste management systems and contribute to a cleaner planet.
Production and logistics:
We strive to reduce our emissions and energy consumption by optimizing our logistics and transport, including choosing more environmentally friendly modes of transport. Our product imports arrive by container ship to the Port of Gothenburg. From there, we use rail transport, and the very last stretch to our warehouse is by truck.
Sustainability in the kitchen:
We are proud to offer products that help our customers reduce their own environmental footprint in the kitchen. We strive to use only products that have a long lifecycle and no single-use materials. Our products last a long time when you care for them and follow the care instructions that come with them. Products that reduce the need for single-use consumption contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.
Sustainability education:
We believe that education is one of the keys to promoting sustainable behavior. That is why we regularly share tips and advice on how our customers can reduce their environmental impact by taking care of their products instead of replacing them; one good example is our guide on how to sharpen your kitchen knives.
Premises and vehicles:
We work to make our own premises and vehicles as environmentally friendly as possible. In our premises, we use LED lighting to a large extent to reduce energy needs, and solar panels will soon be installed on our roofs to make us more self-sufficient in electricity. We have also largely moved away from heaters powered by direct electric heating to more efficient air-source heat pumps.
Our vehicle fleet is largely electric, but in cases where we do not have access to full electric operation, we use a hybrid version to reduce carbon emissions and our impact on the planet.
At Dorre, we do not see sustainability as just a trend; it is a conviction we must actively work toward. We are determined to create a more sustainable company and a sustainable future, where the kitchen is a place where great flavors meet environmental awareness. Together with our suppliers and customers, we work to make the world greener, one meal at a time.
