How does a siphon work?
A siphon, or cream siphon as it is often called, uses nitrous oxide (N2O) to create a fluffy foam from fat-based liquids such as cream. The siphon is loaded with a cartridge of nitrous oxide that mixes with the liquid and forms small bubbles, creating a creamy foam that can be used for everything from desserts to cocktails.
How to use a siphon?
Using a siphon is actually easier than you might think. Follow these steps to get started and you'll be ready to experiment with your new kitchen tool!
How to use a siphon:
-
Prepare the liquid - Mix cream or another fat-based liquid into the siphon.
-
Fill the siphon - Unscrew the cap from the bottle and fill the siphon with the liquid. Remember to only use cold or room temperature liquid.
-
Screw on the head - Make sure that the cap on the bottle is properly screwed on and that the seal is in place.
-
Charge with nitrous oxide - Place a nitrous oxide cartridge in the holder and screw it in until you hear the gas being released.
-
Shake the siphon - Turn the siphon upside down twice and shake the bottle a few times to distribute the gas.
-
Store in a cool place - For best results, let the bottle sit in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
-
Pipe the foam - Attach the nozzle you want to use and dispense the foam by turning the siphon upside down.
