Even the New Year’s table setting and menu you choose deserve a big role at this wonderful gathering. But what’s best to serve as a starter, main course, and dessert for New Year’s, and how do you create the most elegant and sparkling New Year’s table setting? Check out our best tips below for your ultimate dinner menu and table setting.

Beautiful New Year’s decoration for dinner - Details for the New Year’s table setting

A New Year’s dinner is not like any other meal, and the table setting shouldn’t be either. Whether you want a New Year’s table setting in silver or gold, or perhaps even both, there are a few things that add polish to the dinner table and make it extra special. Get inspired by our tips here:

  1. The more the merrier. Think about filling the table with crockery, plates, candles, flowers, glitter, and other decorations. A New Year’s table that looks bare and empty is not recommended. By creating a fuller look, you get a more luxurious feel. Dorre has beautiful details to decorate your table with. For example, place wine glasses on stylish coasters, and by all means put out a beautiful oil & vinegar set that guests can drizzle over their salad or appetizers.

  2. Lay out knives, forks, and spoons for the starter, main course, and dessert for an elegant touch to the table setting, and feel free to use a slightly more refined cutlery set for the New Year’s dinner. Dorre’s delightful cutlery is a perfect fit for a festive dinner party.

  3. The little extra. Yes, what better occasion to go all out than on New Year’s Eve itself? For example, make a beautiful napkin fold for New Year’s and add neat napkin rings as well as decorate the dinner table with elegant glass candle holders with taper candles for a warm and cozy feel.

Your ultimate New Year’s menu for 2026 - Starter, main course & dessert

New Year’s starter - Luxurious toast skagen

Is there anything tastier and more traditional than toast skagen as a New Year’s starter? I don’t think so. Pick up a really delicious skagen röra, or make your own with shrimp, mayonnaise, red onion, and more, and serve it on grilled sourdough bread with luxurious bleak roe and a small sprig of dill and a lemon slice on top. Delicious!

New Year’s main course - Classic juicy beef fillet

What would New Year’s Eve be without a main course that includes beef fillet and a little red wine sauce? You don’t need to make it unnecessarily complicated and come up with something revolutionary to serve as a main course when a juicy beef fillet always goes down well. Need a vegetarian main course for New Year’s too? Then make sure to also cook, for example, some portobello mushrooms and halloumi so everyone has something to eat. Then serve the whole feast with a really tasty potato gratin.

New Year’s dessert - Fruity & easy panna cotta

The Italians have many tricks up their sleeves when it comes to food, and panna cotta is of course one of them. This dessert is also perfect because it’s super easy to make, contains few ingredients, and keeps in the fridge for a couple of days. That means you can prepare your New Year’s panna cotta the day before, so you don’t have to stress on New Year’s Eve itself, nice, right? The only ingredients you need are: gelatin sheets, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla sugar, and a little berries or fruit for topping, and voila, you have your New Year’s dessert!

Bonus tip! Make sure to also serve some snacks or canapés and a pre-dinner drink when your dinner guests arrive for a complete dinner party.
