Crayfish party, seafood feast, crayfish celebration or crayfish festival. Yes, call it what you want, but the season for this year's coziest event is finally here! Gather your friends, family, and acquaintances and celebrate that summer is not yet over with delicious crayfish and accompaniments! Below we have gathered our best tips and tricks on how to have a truly successful crayfish party.
Fresh crayfish or frozen, which should I choose?
Many believe that fresh crayfish are a must when having a crayfish party, but the fact is that if you just have patience, frozen crayfish can taste just as good as the fresh ones.
How long do the crayfish need to thaw before I can eat them?
If you choose to buy frozen crayfish, we would recommend that you purchase them well in advance of when you plan to eat them. To really get that delicious and juicy flavor, it is best to thaw them slowly over two days in the refrigerator.
How do I quickly thaw crayfish?
If you need to thaw the crayfish as quickly as possible, our tip is to take them out of the paper packaging and place them in cold water in the sink. Let them sit for at least 10 hours for the best results.
How to open crayfish with a seafood claw?
We have all been there. It is finally time. The guests have arrived, you have finished the aperitif, everyone is in high spirits, and you finally sit down at the beautifully set table to enjoy a real crayfish party together. The crayfish are on the plate with various nice accompaniments, but then it hits you - how do you actually peel the crayfish to get the most out of the meat? We will tell you that now!
Step 1. Preparations
Make sure you have a seafood tongs and possibly a little seafood fork at hand. Wash your hands thoroughly before you start handling the crayfish.
Step 2. Break off the claws
Grab the crayfish's claws at the base, right where it is attached to the body. Gently but firmly twist to break the claw off from the body.
Step 3. Open the claws
Then place the clone in seafood tongs. Gently squeeze the seafood claw around the claw until it cracks. Be careful not to squeeze too hard so that the meat inside the claw is not crushed. Use seafood fork to carefully remove the meat from the claw.
Step 4. Open the tail of the crayfish
Break off the tail from the lobster's body by twisting and pulling. If the tail shell is hard, you can use the seafood tongs to crack it, just like you did with the claws. Be careful not to damage the meat inside.
Step 5. Remove the meat from the tail
Hold the tail's shell and use your fingers or a seafood fork to pull the meat out of the shell. Try to get the meat out in one piece to make it easier to eat.
Step 6. Clean out the intestine
When you have taken out the meat, make sure to remove the dark intestine that runs along the tail. This can be a bit bitter and is best to avoid eating.
Step 7. Enjoy!
Now you are a full-fledged pro at opening crayfish, so now the last step is just to enjoy a real feast together with your table neighbors.
NOTE! Open and eat your own crayfish before helping others.
