Remove Wax from Tablecloth - 4 Tips!

Did you accidentally spill wax on the tablecloth? No problem – you can remove the wax with a few simple tricks and items you already have at home. By freezing the tablecloth, scraping off the wax, ironing with kitchen paper and then washing, you can get the tablecloth clean again without damaging the fabric. Below we go through how to do it step by step and also give tips on how to remove colored wax.

How do you remove wax from a tablecloth?

Step 1. Put the tablecloth in the freezer

Let the wax harden completely and then place the tablecloth in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This makes the wax easier to scrape off.

Step 2. Scrape off the wax

Use a knife or spoon to gently scrape off as much wax as possible. Avoid a very sharp knife and scrape gently so as not to damage the fabric.

Step 3. Iron away the wax

Place a layer of kitchen paper or a coffee filter under and over the wax stain and iron with a low-heat iron. This causes the remaining wax to melt and be absorbed by the paper. If it is a large stain you may need to change the paper a few times.

Step 4. Wash the tablecloth

Wash the tablecloth in the washing machine according to the instructions with regular detergent. If a stubborn grease stain remains you can use glycerin soap or dish soap before washing the tablecloth.

How to remove colored wax from a tablecloth

Colored candles can leave pigment in the fabric, which makes the stain harder to remove. Soak the tablecloth for a few hours after ironing with kitchen paper and add an oxygen-based stain remover. Then wash the tablecloth as usual.
